ROCKLAND — Hannah Pingree, former Speaker of the House and Democratic candidate for governor, will attend the annual Maine Fishermen’s Forum where fishermen, sea farmers, gear suppliers, state and federal scientists and regulators will discuss current challenges and opportunities in Maine’s fisheries and coastal communities. Hannah will be participating in the 2026 Gubernatorial Candidates’ seminar starting at 1pm.
Ahead of the Forum, Dave Cousens of South Thomaston, a lobsterman and former president of the Maine Lobstermen’s Association, and Steve Train, a lifelong commercial fisherman from Long Island, published a column endorsing Hannah and highlighting her experience and record in supporting Maine’s fishing industry.
The campaign also released two videos featuring Cousens and Train, where they share Hannah’s work on coastal issues and her experience. They note her upbringing in a fishing community, service on the Lobster Zone Council, time as Speaker of the Maine House, and leadership of the Governor’s Office of Policy Innovation and the Future, including her work protecting working waterfronts, securing storm recovery funds, and strengthening coastal resilience.
Cousens and Train conclude in their column: “Maine needs a governor who understands our fishing industry, our coastal economy, respects our traditions, and is ready to meet the challenges ahead. Hannah Pingree has proven to us that she can do exactly that.”
