Endorsed by Maine Conservation Voters Action Fund, Sierra Club, Hannah Brings Decades of Environmental Leadership to Governor's Race
MAINE — On Earth Day, Democratic gubernatorial candidate and former Speaker of the House Hannah Pingree is highlighting her decades-long record of fighting for Maine’s environment and tackling the climate crisis, backed by the endorsement of Maine Conservation Voters Action Fund, Sierra Club and the support of national and state climate leaders.
“Mainers know exactly how much we depend on clean water and clean air, and they deeply value environmental protection. Growing up and living in a fishing community, I know that its’ not just our heritage, it’s essential to our economy and our way of life,” said Hannah Pingree. “Donald Trump is selling that out for oil and coal company profits while Maine families pay the price at the pump and in their heating bills. As the President gives up on urgent climate action and environmental protection, the role of governors has never been more important.”
Maine Conservation Voters Action Fund endorsed Hannah in the Democratic primary in December 2025, the first time in their history they have endorsed in a governor’s race at this stage, citing her unmatched record, her courage, and her steady leadership. Sierra Club endorsed her jointly with fellow gubernatorial candidates Shenna Bellows and Troy Jackson. She’s also gained the support of national climate leaders:
"Hannah Pingree sets the standard for what state leaders can achieve on climate action. Drawing on her deep track record of standing up for the environment as Speaker of the Maine House and co-chair of the Maine Climate Council, Hannah delivers on common sense solutions that rein in energy costs, create green jobs, and protect the health of workers and families. Hannah knows that climate actions must be about improving people's lives. With climate action under attack in Washington, we need to elect Governors like Hannah Pingree who can continue this crucial state action."
— Gina McCarthy, former White House National Climate Advisor and U.S. EPA Administrator
"The stakes have never been higher in the fight against climate change, and governors are on the front lines. Maine needs innovative and experienced leaders like Hannah Pingree at the helm to continue the remarkable progress the state has achieved through her leadership, advancing climate actions and community resilience, while also leading on essential issues that matter right now like housing families can afford and fighting for health care access and good jobs. I'm proud to support her because she has both the vision and the track record to deliver real progress for the people of Maine."
— Jay Inslee, former Governor of Washington
“Unprecedented times call for unprecedented actions. Hannah Pingree stands out, demonstrating time and again her commitment to taking on big, important fights and standing up to special interests to protect the health of Maine people, the environment, and our democracy. Hannah will fight for lower energy prices and a clean energy future.”
— Maureen Drouin, Maine Conservation Voters
Hannah has spent her career fighting for Maine’s people and the natural resources that define the state. As a legislator and Speaker of the House, Hannah passed major environmental health laws including the Kid-Safe Products Act, advanced Maine’s first meaningful greenhouse gas reduction targets, invested in clean water, energy efficiency, and sponsored a successful Land for Maine’s Future bond protecting working waterfronts, family farms, and forestland.
As co-chair of the Maine Climate Council and Director of the Governor’s Office of Policy Innovation and the Future, Hannah helped shape Maine Won’t Wait into a national model, championed the installation of more than 100,000 heat pumps two years ahead of schedule, launched the Community Resilience Partnership now helping more than 250 towns prepare for a changing climate, and pushed for coastal resilience long before the devastating storms of 2023 and 2024. She led the charge during those recovery efforts, spearheading the bipartisan passage of LD 1, an investment community preparedness and resilience for future storms for homeowners, communities, and businesses.
As governor, Hannah has pledged to hold corporate polluters accountable, lower energy costs, grow local clean energy jobs and industries, and safeguard Maine’s environment and democracy in the face of growing threats. Her full Climate and Energy Plan is at https://hannahforgovernor.com/climate/
The Earth Day announcement comes as Hannah’s campaign builds momentum heading into the June 9th primary. Hannah is the first Democratic candidate in the race to go on air, launching her new television ad “Time.” It coincides with the rollout of her comprehensive Maine’s Next Chapter plans focused on affordability — from housing and health care to lowering property taxes and energy costs — and growing wages and economic opportunity in every corner of Maine. She also announced her Maine’s Next Chapter Tour, traveling to communities in every corner of the state for town halls, house parties, and listening sessions where Mainers can connect directly with her and share their vision for the state’s future.
