PORTLAND – Today the Maine Gun Safety Coalition issued endorsements for the primary election on June 9.
This round of early endorsements focuses on key primaries, including legislative seats and the gubernatorial race. MGSC plans to support endorsed candidates through organizing and voter contact in both the primary and general elections.
“The last election made clear that a majority of Mainers across the state support common-sense gun safety laws and believe that gun rights come with responsibilities like keeping firearms out of dangerous hands,” said Nacole Palmer, executive director of the Maine Gun Safety Coalition. “We had to take Extreme Risk Protection Orders to the ballot because for years our elected leaders failed to represent the values of Mainers. It’s time to change that by electing gun safety champions up and down the ballot.”
Today’s legislative endorsement announcements include:
- Victoria Kornfield, HD 23
- Josh Gerritsen, HD 41
- Kiernan Majerus-Collins, HD 95
- Mana Abdi, SD 21
- Shanna Cox, SD 21
- Ellie Sato, SD 30
- Michele Meyer, SD 35
- Deane Rykerson, SD 35
Additionally, MGSC issued co-endorsements for gun safety champions Shenna Bellows, Troy Jackson, Hannah Pingree, and Nirav Shah in the governor’s race. Any of these four candidates would be a strong champion for gun violence prevention and accurately reflect the values of Maine voters on this issue.
The coalition previously endorsed Chellie Pingree and Jordan Wood in the 1st and 2nd Congressional District races, respectively.
