PORTLAND, ME — Hannah Pingree, former Speaker of the Maine House and candidate for Governor, has earned the endorsement of Maine Conservation Voters Action Fund (MCVAF), a milestone that reflects the growing momentum behind her campaign. MCV, Maine’s leading environmental organization, works to elect leaders who will protect the state’s natural resources, fight climate change, and invest in affordable clean energy — making their endorsement a major recognition of Hannah’s record and vision for a sustainable Maine.
“I’m honored to earn the endorsement of Maine Conservation Voters Action Fund,” said Hannah Pingree. “I’ve spent most of my life living in a small rural island town, representing my neighbors who make a living on the ocean where a clean environment is tied to livelihoods and the future of our communities. Every fight has taught me the importance of standing up to powerful interests and staying connected to the people you’re fighting for. Over the years, I’ve worked across the state to take on big challenges and deliver results – from protecting our kids’ health from toxic chemicals to taking action to prepare for extreme storms. As governor, I’ll keep fighting for Maine people and our future.”
Hannah has been a transformative leader in Maine’s fight against climate change and an environmental champion throughout her nearly 25 years of public service. As Speaker of the House, she made environmental health a priority, taking on the chemical companies and winning, removing toxic chemicals from children’s products, and protecting Maine families. She was also a leading champion of the Land for Maine’s Future conservation program, working waterfront protections, and provided early leadership to advance energy efficiency programs in the state.
As co-chair of the Maine Climate Council for the past six years, she spearheaded Maine Won’t Wait, a comprehensive plan to take climate action in Maine—installing over 100,000 heat pumps years ahead of state goals and investing in weatherizing homes to reduce emissions and Mainers reliance on heating oil; all while growing homegrown clean energy sources and businesses, and good paying jobs.
She led historic investments in community resilience, including unprecedented storm recovery funding and programs to strengthen homes, working waterfronts and infrastructure to prepare for extreme weather events.
“Unprecedented times call for unprecedented actions,” said Maureen Drouin, executive director of Maine Conservation Voters. “Hannah Pingree stands out, demonstrating time and again her commitment to taking on big, important fights and standing up to special interests to protect the health of Maine people, the environment, and our democracy. Hannah will fight for lower energy prices and a clean energy future. We are proud to endorse her candidacy for governor.”
The endorsement underscores Hannah’s broad support and her commitment to fighting for Maine families. From making housing and health care more affordable to protecting the environment and standing up to the Trump administration, Hannah’s campaign is focused on delivering real results that strengthen communities and build a resilient future for the state.
