Letter: Maine needs Hannah Pingree’s leadership

This guest column, written by Dana O’Brien was originally published in the Portland Press Herald.

Maine needs leaders who can bring people together to solve problems and prepare our state for the future. That is what I appreciate about Hannah Pingree’s approach to public service.

I have had the chance to work with Pingree on efforts tied to Maine’s life sciences sector and blue economy. What stands out is that she collaborates to achieve outcomes for Maine people. She brings together Republicans, independents, business leaders, scientists and local communities because she understands good ideas can come from anywhere.

This approach is especially important now. Maine is facing rising costs, housing challenges, an aging population and growing competition for jobs and talent. I appreciated Pingree’s work leading the Office of Policy Innovation and the Future because she understood Maine must protect what makes this state special while also building future opportunity through science, innovation and our natural resource strengths.

Hannah Pingree is my choice for Maine governor.
