BANGOR, Maine (WABI) – Attorney General Aaron Frey endorsed Democratic gubernatorial candidate Hannah Pingree on Tuesday.
Frey returned to his hometown of Bangor to make the announcement outside of the Penobscot Judicial Center.
He said Pingree is an experienced leader who has what it takes to lead the state starting on day one.
“If you really want a blueprint for how to observe how to be a really good next governor, how to lead the state of Maine, look at who’s in charge of the Office of Policy Innovation and the Future. And that’s been Hannah Pingree up until the point that she stopped to run for governor, right? Because it is in that office in which she was working with the governor, with commissioners, with a team that she led to be planning for what Maine is going to be looking like over the next 5, 10, 25 years. And she led that very, very well. This is experience, folks, that is going to be so important to making sure that Maine is taken care of over the next 4 and 8 years,” Frey said.
Pingree said she has the experience needed for the role.
“I have the experience, again, as Speaker of the House, leading in the Mills Administration, working at the local level. I know how to get things done in government, just like Aaron does,” Pingree said.
If elected governor, Pingree said she will continue to work with Maine’s attorney general to hold the Trump administration accountable.
Frey has been a part of more than 50 legal proceedings against the administration.
Early voting in Maine’s primary elections is underway.
