PORTLAND (WGME) – In the race for Maine’s next governor, several candidates laid out their health care plans Wednesday.
Both sides of the aisle called current health care a crumbling system that needs to be improved.
Democratic and Republican candidates say they are eager to change the future of health care in Maine for all, with cutting rising costs at the forefront.
“I will fight every day for the health of Maine people,” Democratic candidate for Governor Hannah Pingree said.
Pingree and Shah unveiled their health care plans Wednesday.
“Accessing health care should not be a source of fear. It should be something you can count on,” Pingree said.
Pingree says she wants to make healthcare more affordable, such as creating a cheaper, state-backed public health insurance option. She also wants to rebuild Maine’s health care workforce by increasing incentives for primary care providers.
Shah laid out a similar plan to Pingree, also wanting to cut costs for Maine families by capping insurance copays, deductibles and prescription drug prices.
